Amazon.com Despite a wave of criticism asserting that Kings of Leon's fourth full-length is "too commercial," Only by the Night may be the closest thing to a pitch-perfect album to drop in 2008. Granted, Tennessee's band of brothers (and one first cousin) takes a turn for the heavily polished here, but what the album lacks in rough-edged raunch, it more than makes up for in earnestness and--yes--stunning beauty. From the opening notes of "Closer" to the listing balladry of "Cold Desert," Only by the Night hardly misses a beat. Highlights abound, particularly in the trading off of melodic lines between instruments, and in this regard, bassist Jared Followill is the album's quiet MVP. Above these gorgeous instrumentals, singer Caleb emotes with a dramatic grit that never loses its command. A model of melodic rock composition, arranged and produced with a warm, inviting veneer, and performed with aching sincerity, these 11 tracks coalesce into a sanguine whole that eclipses the band's much-discussed rock posturing and yields more with every play. A good band's great album, Only by the Night (finally) establishes Kings of Leon as a rock act that's worthy of seriously sustained attention. --Jason Kirk
Album Description Kings of Leon return with the release of their highly anticipated fourth album 'Only By The Night' on 22nd September through Columbia Records. 'Only By The Night' is a bold and expansive sonic statement that looks set to solidify Kings of Leon's position as one of the most important international acts of 2008 and beyond. It follows rapidly in the footsteps of the bands previous albums 'Youth And Young Manhood', 'Aha Shake Heartbreak' & 'Because Of The Times', which have quickly established them as one of the most prolific and acclaimed acts around.

Only by the Night February 12, 2010 W. H. Tharp (Dallas, Texas) Love, love, love it! I like every song on this CD. I've played and played it and intend to play it even more. I have it on my computer and the CD is in the car. Love this group. So glad they won the Grammy for best song: Use Somebody.
Awesome CD February 8, 2010 K. Kline (Kansas City, MO, USA) This is a really great CD with a lot of variety to the songs. If you enjoy just a few of their songs, you'll enjoy the whole CD.
Kings of Leon Rock! February 6, 2010 Rebecca L. Quinn (Louisville, Ms.) Wow. This is one of the best cd's I have bought in a while. I was hoping to like more than USE SOMEBODY and SEX ON FIRE. I love the whole cd.I am one of those people that if I like just one song I buy the cd, I do listen to them all of the way thru, sometimes you find other songs you like sometimes you don't. Did not have to worry about that with Kings of Leon, The whole record is awesome! Ready for more!
A liitle late with this... January 24, 2010 Wesley J. Clough (Northumberland UK) Every release from the Kings of Leon has been purchased by myself, if not on the day of release, certainly within the first week of it hitting shelves.
Into the Night was no different, however my review comes many months later??
This album was released just as I was begining a new job and was a great companion during my new longer commute to work. Again the band built upon the new directions found in their 3rd album while still retaining the heartfelt swagger of the 1st and 2nd and you can be guaranteed I will be there up front waiting for their 5th ablum.
I also love that this album has brought the band to be recognised by a much wider audience and are now part of the fabric and fashion of today, for some bands this would mark the end of creativity, however i'm confident the Kings of Leon are going to continue to surprise us all!
